 Basic tips before photographing a music concert

With a combination of fast lenses and high ISO (but reasonable), we can capture the good moments with a fairly sharp picture quality, which could have missed if our shutter is too slow.

Tips dasar sebelum memotret konser musik

1.                 Mulailah dari konser didekat lingkungan anda.

Pernahkah anda mulai belajar sepakbola dan langsung memimpikan dipanggil tim nasional PSSI? mistis bukan? Nah hal ini berlaku juga di dunia fotografi konser musik. Jika anda baru saja mulai belajar memotret konser musik, mulailah dari yang kecil dulu. Kalau kebetulan anda pelajar, cobalah cari event musik di sekolah sendiri atau disekolah teman anda. Kalau anda kebetulan seorang karyawan, mulailah dari event di kantor. Baru kemudian beranjak ke konser musik yang lebih besar, misalnya lomba musik yang sifatnya regional. Jangan melompat terlalu tinggi, mulailah dari yang kecil.

Event musik lokal membuat kita tidak terlalu nervous serta membantu kita lebih akrab dengan suasana konser musik secara umum. Konser musik skala besar biasanya mensyaratkan tanda ID fotografer resmi, sehingga bagi anda yang baru memulai bisa terhalang karenanya

2.                 Kenali susunan acara.

Usahakan sebelum berangkat, kita tahu garis besar susunan acara. Dengan begitu kita bisa menghemat tenaga serta konsentrasi, tahu kapan harus mendekati panggung dan kapan bisa meninggalkannya. Kalau kita tahu apa yang akan terjadi dalam beberapa saat mendatang, antisipasi kita pastilah jauh lebih baik

3.                 Bawalah Peralatan Seperlunya

Jangan membawa peralatan dan perbekalan melebihi apa yang kita butuhkan. Anda tidak perlu membawa tripod, tidak perlu membawa lensa lebih dari dua (bahkan satu-pun cukup) dan tidak perlu membawa charger. Bawaan yang ringkas dan seperlunya membuat kita bisa bergerak dengan lincah dan justru bisa berkonsentrasi.

4.                 Tinggikan ISO pada Kamera Anda

Seringkali konser musik diadakan di dalam gedung dengan pencahayaan yang minim, atau bahkan dilangsungkan di malam hari. Kalau memang lighting di panggung kurang mencukupi, tinggikan ISO di settingan DSLR anda. Meskipun muncul noise, paling tidak hasil fotonya bisa lumayan lebih tajam.

5.                 Gunakan Lensa Tercepat  yang  Anda Miliki

Kalau anda memiliki lensa f/1.4 gunakan itu untuk sebagian besar foto anda. Kalau lensa tercepat anda memiliki aperture f/2.8, apa boleh buat pakai yang ini. Foto konser musik biasanya bertumpu pada momen yang menarik, yang hanya bisa dicapai saat kita memiliki kecepatan yang cukup. Dengan kombinasi lensa cepat dan ISO tinggi (tapi wajar), kita bisa menangkap momen-momen bagus dengan kualitas foto yang lumayan tajam, yang bisa saja terlewatkan kalau shutter kita terlalu lambat. 

6.                 Jangan Lupakan Penonton

Masing-masing lagu memiliki reaksi yang unik bagi pendengarnya, begitu juga aksi musisi dan penyanyi di panggung pasti memunculkan reaksi tersendiri. Tangkaplah reaksi penonton dalam jepretan anda.

7.                 Jangan Lupakan Lingkungan

Jangan lupa potretlah juga lingkungan sekeliling panggung, jangan hanya terpaku pada penyanyi dan musisi-nya saja. Potret juga saat gitar di stem, saat drum di set, saat sound system di tes, saat orang-orang lighting mencoba lampu atau gulungan kabel di pojok mungkin juga menarik? 

8.                 Cerita

Foto yang baik adalah foto yang bisa bercerita dengan sendirinya. Contoh: saat meliput konser rock, pastikan foto bisa bercerita bahwasanya sang vokalis menyanyi dengan sepenuh tenaga sampai urat lehernya keluar semua, sementara sang gitaris menunjukkan kemampuannya sebagai calon pengganti Steve Vai dengan mengangkat gitar-nya tinggi-tinggi. Tanpa anda memberi judul di foto, orang juga tahu bahwa konser yang anda foto adalah sebuah konser musik rock. 

9.                 Kenali Diri di Lingkaran Orang-Orang Konser

Buat diri anda dikenal di lingkaran orang-orang konser. Perkenalkan diri dengan sopan pada anggota band, cobalah ngobrol dengan orang sound system/ lighting. Kenalkan diri pada organizer dan juga sesama fotografer. Mintalah alamat email dan kirimkan hasil foto anda pada mereka. Siapa tahu anda akan mulai diterima dengan baik oleh orang-orang yang biasa terlibat dalam urusan konser, bahkan dengan musisinya sekalian. Dengan begitu urusan kedepan akan jauh lebih lancar, anda akan mendapat bocoran event selanjutnya dan makin leluasa berkeliaran di panggung konser.
